Liter of Light Workshops

The Liter of Light solar bulb is made of a plastic bottle, water, a tablespoon of bleach (to prevent mold) and a drop of glue. This zero-carbon, low-cost, citizen-driven energy initiative is designed for those living without access to electricity. The project plays a crucial role in bringing security and opportunity to the poor by providing lighting for businesses, homes and streets. The project, first launched by the My Shelter Foundation, provides light to 28,000 homes in Metro Manila alone, and has been replicated in countries from Argentina to Zambia. These one and two-day workshops provide local residents with the skills and designs necessary to install this technology in various contexts.
